Australia Large Appliance Rating Label Cost Calculator

Australian Energy Rating Lable

Use the energy consumption value

All large home appliances (fridges, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwasher etc... ) in Australia all display an energy rating label.  They have evolved over the years with new ones displaying much more info for the consumer making it much easier to distinguish between an economically energy efficient appliance.

A question often asked when buying a large appliance is:

"how much does that appliance cost run?"

The answer is usually: "it depends".

The Rating Label Cost Calculator will work out approximately how much each appliance will cost to operate each year.

The cost calculator will also estimate the CO2 emissions it will generate each year.

Use the calculator and type in the kwH value you see on the rating label and press calculate.

Small Appliance Cost Calculator

Locate the wattage(W) on the appliance.

Typically, small appliances do not have an energy rating label like their larger counter parts.

Therefore, to work out energy consumption we need to find out how many watts the appliance uses when its operating.

Have a look on the back on underneath the appliance for the manufacturers label.  It will contain some product information about the appliance and it will often show how many watts the appliance uses.  Many stores will have a display model which where you can see the label.  Or it may be printed on the packaging.

Once you locate how many watts the appliance uses:

  1. type it into the Appliance Cost Calculator,
  2. along with an estimate on how many hours each week you might use it,
  3. choose your country and
  4. click calculate.

It will show how many kilowatt hours it will use along with cost estimate in your currency.

Some appliances will show a range eg 2000w - 2400w.  Use the largest value.
