Appliances for O Week

O Week is not just for undergrads. Mature age students and lecturers are also gearing up for the semester/trimester. Here are some things you might need.

Ah, I remember Orientation Week at uni like it was yesterday. Buying all of my textbooks straight away, attending all of my morning classes, taking the bus. I was terribly studious the first year. Of course O Week is not just for undergrads fresh out of high school. Mature age students and lecturers are also gearing up for the semester/trimester (depending on the uni).

Instinct and popular opinion tells us that for uni the only electronics you need are a laptop and your phone, but experience tells us that we can offer a few more things to bring the comfort levels up so you can focus on learning (or teaching!).

Undergrad

If this is your first time at university, welcome! You’ve probably got your necessities together already, but you might have forgotten one vital piece of equipment: headphones.

Studying without distractions is important to the success of your degree so playing some music or listening to a podcast rather than whatever inane conversation your roommates or beloved family are trying to subject you to will help with your concentration. If you’re taking public transport then headphones are an absolute must: trust me when I say nothing makes a bus or train trip feel hours long like listening to some random person tell another random person their entire life story up to this point like a more boring version of Forrest Gump.

Here’s some suggestions:

Urbanista London True Wireless Noise Cancelling In-Ear Headphones

Urbanista’s London True Wireless Headphones feature Active Noise Cancellation which reduces unwanted noise, and an Ambient Sound Mode which will define outside voices without the need to lower the volume or hit pause (handy!). They come in a range of colours to match your style and customisable silicone tips for max comfort.

With a 7.5hr playtime and an additional 4 charges in the case you’ll never run out of battery at those times when you need it most.

These LG Earbuds also come with Active Noise Cancellation to block out surrounding noise to help you concentrate on what you’re listening to. They also feature Meridian sound technology with Virtual 3D Sound Stage for an immersive, clear and spatial sound experience.

They also feature UV Nano Self Cleaning technology which kills 99.9% of bacteria after 5 minutes.

Mature Age Student

So you’ve gone back to uni to change the course of your career, or to re-enter the workforce, or to progress your current career or you’ve just continued on from your undergrad. One thing is certain: you don’t have time to cook massive three course dinners, especially if you’re also busy working full time or are late home because you kept the lecture going with a long list of follow up questions.

We’ve got a recommendation for you: a microwave upgrade. You’ve been studying hard so it’s time to treat yourself in the way only a real grown up can get excited about. New appliances.

Panasonic 27L Inverter Microwave Oven

This microwave features a flatbed design, so you no longer need to make sure your meal is small enough to fit on a janky little turntable. The cooking area is 31% bigger than a standard microwave, so you can fit larger or irregularly shaped dishes inside. You can then make sure your dish is cooked to perfection with the Precise Power Control offered by New Inverter Technology. You can cook dishes all the way through, or gently soften ice cream which has frozen hard.

The stylish, frameless design will also fit well into any modern kitchen space. Sevens all around!

Lecturer

You’re already tired. Thinking ahead to when you need to release the first round of marks and planning to go on a holiday with zero phone or internet reception immediately afterwards. Whether you’re lecturing in person or online this semester there’s one thing you need for certain to support your teaching: caffeine.

You need something fancy, something fast and precise to make a delicious morning coffee to help you feel ready to touch the minds of tomorrow’s leaders. We recommend the Breville Barista Touch Coffee Machine.

Breville Barista Touch Coffee Machine

The Breville Barista Touch features a built-in grinder and steam wand, a pre-programmed cafe drinks menu and automatic milk texturing. It heats up in 3 seconds and is compact in size so it doesn’t take up your whole benchtop.

Using the touch screen display you can simply and easily adjust your coffee strength, milk texture and temperature to suit your taste. You can then save it with your own unique name - in fact you can save up to 8 of these personalised coffees!
